Spitfire AD233 "West Borneo I" was paid for by donations from the Dutch East Indies. The RAF allowed the title to be painted in 2" grey letters on the cowling.
I had a bit of a moment today. I sat back and gazed upon my finished Spitfire illustration and remembered the first time I saw Roy Cross’ artwork for the Series One Airfix Supermarine Spitfire. I was five years old when I first saw some of his incredible artwork and I wanted more than anything to be the chap who made it. I guess he started both my interest in art and old aircraft. Sincerely, thank you Mr Cross.

Once I thought about things like: why such information is for free here? Because when you write a book then at least you get a percentage from sales. Thank you and good luck on informing people more about it!
Thanks very much for your kind words. Why do I do it for free? I have often asked myself the same question! I guess as a lecturer, imparting my skills and knowledge was all part of the job and after 12 years, perhaps it just becomes a habit (although at least then I was getting paid for it!).
I suppose at least some of this information is in the form of a personal diary, so I do it for myself. But this comes with the added bonus of getting appreciative comments from other people who have enjoyed reading my blogs. I believe if you can do things just for yourself, without worrying about what someone else thinks, it is possible to achieve your best work.
Ultimately, I hope that at least some of my readers are interested enough to buy one of my limited edition prints or even commission a custom piece. You see, there is always a catch. While it’s free, it can only continue while discerning art collectors help to pay my mortgage. Wanna buy some?
I have just set them up Jenna! I have both a Facebook and Twitter account. Both are listed under “dreambird art”.
